The smartphone market welcomes new devices every week with every leading mobile company focused on delivering the best smart phone experience. LG has been in the shadows for a while after the Optimus 2X and now it looks to win back its share of limelight with the new mighty LG Spectrum.
Solid looks
The LG Spectrum looks majestic, as it should, when compared to the other smartphones in the same league. At 142 g, it is definitely on the bulkier side but it feels solid in the hands. The Spectrum has a 4.5 HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen which is capable of producing 16M colors at a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The three keys on the front are touch-sensitive and the display is protected by the indestructible Corning Gorilla Glass.
More than capable Hardware and Sufficient memory
Dual cores are the technology which powers all the high end smart phones and LG Spectrum is no exception. It runs on a Dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion with the Adreno 220 GPU. LG Spectrum has an in built memory of 4GB and has a RAM of 1GB. You can expand the memory with the help of a microSD card as the Spectrum supports expansion upto 32 GB. It runs an outdated version of Android OS(v2.3 Gingerbread) and LG is expected to announce the update to Ice Cream Sandwich anytime. The interface is smooth and easy to get around.
8MP camera and other features
The LG Spectrum has an 8MP camera with autofocus and LED flash. It is capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps. A 1.3 MP front facing camera has been included for video calling purposes. The other features of the camera include geo tagging, face detection and image stabilization.
The Spectrum uses the LTE 700 technology for 4G and depends on CDMA for 2G and 3G networks. This will not work on any GSM device anywhere in the world. The Wireless network is pretty much covered with support for Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and even allows setting up WiFi hotspots. Bluetooth 3.0 support is an added bonus.
Web browsing is always going to be a breeze with such powerful processor and the Spectrum does not disappoint. The web pages load very fast and the browser supports Adobe Flash to make things easier. The phone also comes equipped with A-GPS inbuilt.
Spectrum plays DivX files out of the box and has a true HD movie editor. It has TV out support, if you ever need to watch your movies on a bigger screen. Document editor and Swype support out of the box can only work in favor of the Spectrum.
Final Verdict
LG has managed to send in a powerful contender to compete with the smartphone giants in the form of the LG Spectrum. It has got all the necessary features to make a name for itself. Is the Spectrum going to emerge victorious in the Smartphone race? Or is it going to fall back? Only time will tell.
